About Aasraa

HELP AASRAA PROVIDE FOOD TO FAMILIES IN NEED!
Aasraa is a community-based food distribution operation which includes a Food Pantry and the Seva Food Truck of Michigan. Aasraa provides access to basic food necessities for families in need regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age or disability and more. We accomplish this through the generous giving of time and labor from dedicated community volunteers.

Background and Growth
Aasraa began as a food pantry. We opened our doors on February 12, 2015 and were able to serve 33 people. With all the support everyone has shown Aasraa, it has grown to include a Food Truck (known as SevaTruck of Michigan) as well. In the last five years, our Food Pantry and Food Truck has been fortunate to serve over 9,000 families in the Detroit and Metro-Detroit area.
With the generosity of the DVN Community, we have been growing our operations over the years. 100% of donations are used for the purchase of food to be cooked and served as well as maintenance of our truck and pantry space.

What We’ve Accomplished Together
- Through the pandemic, we’ve kept operations running and provided over 19,033 meals and 4,000 lbs of canned foods to families.
- It currently costs about $4.50 to cook a healthy, nutritious meal for an entire family of three. That comes down to $1.50 per meal per person.
- All of our utensils and serving supplies are eco-friendly and compostable.
- We are partnering with local schools and homeless shelters to bring meals to areas that have become food deserts in 2020.
Help Us Continue Feeding Families in Need
With each meal costing about $1.50:
- Pledge $4.50 = help a family of 3
- Pledge $45 = help 10 families
- Pledge $90 = help 20 families

Vision
Your support is critical as Aasraa provides and continues to expand our critical food services to those in need. Little by little, we hope to fulfill the mission of helping Degh and Tegh flourish in the name of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh.
