Punjab Flood Relief

 

SAF International is providing relief and medical assistance to those affected by the catastrophic floods in Punjab, as well as reconstruction work. Whole villages in the region have been overtaken by water, decimating homes, livestock, and crops. SAF International teams are serving hot meals, drinking water, and other basic necessities to the flood-affected families. They have set up medical treatment tents and also have separate medical teams with first-aid on wheels making the rounds through affected villages. They have also started reconstruction and restoration work and need your help.

About SAF International

 

Sikhi Awareness Foundation (known as SAF International) was founded in Canada in 2014 to support poverty alleviation in India. SAF International follows the Sikh principle of selfless service to humanity in its work for development and social change.

SAF International’s activities help provide the disadvantaged access to quality education and basic needs (e.g. sanitation, clean water, etc). The NGO's first major initiative was its child education sponsorship initiative, the Bloom Literacy Program. In addition, SAF provides gurmat education. SAF International’s work for poverty alleviation and development is inclusive of all people regardless of race, religion, or caste.

The broad areas of focus for SAF International is Punjab and Sikligar communities across India. Sikligars are a population of Sikhs who have been forgotten and are unknown by the mainstream Sikh community. Sikligar Sikhs were metal work laborers who were first recruited by Guru Hargobind Sahib to develop arms. Thereafter, Guru Gobind Sahib gave them the title Sikligars which means ‘polisher of weapons’ in Persian. Sikligars held a special importance in the Sikh community being the weapon makers for the Khalsa Army up until the time of Maharajah Ranjit Singh.

Our Initiatives 

• Education - We provide young children of all faiths with the opportunity to pursue a quality education and a better life. 
• Gurmat Vidhya - An after-school program for young Sikh children to learn about their history and develop self-discipline.
• Water - We provide access to clean and drinkable water to families in need across South Asia. 
• Community Development - A key goal of the charity is to raise awareness for communities across South Asia.
• Shelter - Without proper shelter, many families struggle to find comfort and protection against the elements.
• Emergency Relief - In times of crises, we aim to be on the frontline of aid relief as soon as possible both at home and abroad.

SAF International will use the Dasvand Network platform to fund development projects for Punjab, as well as Sikligar communities across India. In addition, SAF will also provide Gurmat Education to connect youth with their Sikh heritage.
