Sevadar is a non-profit organization based in Seattle and we recently transitioned from our annual turban day events to a larger scale event called A Day in Punjab. This event allows us to showcase many different aspects of the the Sikh/Punjabi culture rather than just turban tying. We have events in this community that are religious based such as Nagar Kirtan and also some that are divided by gender such as Teeyan Da Mela for ladies and Kabaddi matches for men. Sevadar wants to provide a space from all community members to gather regardless of age, gender, race, etc to celebrate Punjab. At the same time, our goal is to have this event open those outside of our own community so that they can learn more about Sikhi and Punjab.
We need funds to be able to host such a large event in the heart of Seattle (at the Seattle Center) while keeping it free to the public. We will be using funds to cover venue, artist, food, and other costs.
Our team has been hosting our annual Turban Day events for the past 6 years. Each year we aim to bring our events to life and have them expand and be more educational from previous years of work. This year (2023) we changed our theme from "turban day events" and are instead hosted a new event called "A Day In Punjab." This event continue to be hosted at the Seattle Center and also has the potential of being a landmark event at the heart of Seattle Downtown. We collaborate with other organizations in this area and also apply for grants to help our team meet its project goals. We are also involve with the local community and appreciate their donations as well.
