Our farmer coordinators are active helping farmers in three districts of Punjab – Faridkot, Muktsar and Bhatinda. They have trained farmers to grow organic kitchen gardens and gotten them started with vegetable seeds. They have encouraged 400 farmers in Faridkot District to grow vegetables organically for their own consumption. This has three benefits: It reduces their expenses, provides their families with clean organically grown vegetables for their own consumption and trains them on how to slowly start transitioning their main farm area to organic farming.
Our team led by Jaspal Madhak has arranged training for the farmers on modern organic agricultural techniques. Next, the farmers will be trained in Horticulture (growing of fruit trees) and will be provided samplings at subsidized prices.
We have reached out to and are using the resources at the following institutions: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU- Ludhiana), Haryana Agricultural University (Hissar, Haryana), Horticultural University (Himachal Pradesh), and Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar).
