AID ORPHANED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY HIV/AIDS

Our Vision

The Awassa Children’s Project ACP promotes sensible, culturally responsible international development aimed at assisting children and families primarily orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS. ACP is a grassroots Illinois nonprofit organization 501c3 formed in 2001. We teach the core skills needed to face the world!

What We Do 

• The Awassa Children’s Center provides housing, food, healthcare and education to approximately 120 orphans.
• The Vocational Training Center provides 100 adult students to a 1-year certified program in computer skills, woodwork, electrical work and metalwork.
• The Environment – Using solar panels for electricity, planting trees to help reduce soil erosion and developing clean water for the Center’s children and students. 
• One Love Theatre – an HIV/AIDS Education Theatre company performing for thousands of people throughout Ethiopia each year!
• In addition to these training’s, HCC also offers life skills training including family planning, self empowerment and self confidence, as well as the development of a business mindset.

Our Current Work and Impact

Awassa Children’s Center provides care and support for approximately 100 children in Awassa, Ethiopia, most who have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. The children are given the necessary nutrition, clothing, housing, education, and counseling required for a healthy upbringing, and in-turn, the opportunity to become a self-reliant and active member of the Awassa community.
