This human rights video archive will be the first and largest repository of video testimonials from surviving families of the “Decade of Disappearances.”
Testimonies of Truth: A Video Archive will serve as a permanent, powerful, interactive tool to educate the global community, complementing Ensaaf’s data site on Crimes Against Humanity. This will be accessed at no charge worldwide through the website that will archive these testimonies.
Ensaaf is committed to ending impunity and achieving justice for crimes against humanity in India, with a special focus on Punjab.
The battle for truth and justice is also a battle for memory. We believe in the need to acknowledge, remember, and preserve the testimony of each and every victim of state abuse. This archive is an essential part of Ensaaf’s goal to counter state denial, by unveiling and sharing testimonies of state atrocities. We believe true reconciliation cannot be achieved unless the government lifts the veil of secrecy over its crimes, and the truth is brought to the forefront of public consciousness. In this archive, the survivors’ points of view and testimonies of state abuse take primacy.
To date, about 150 survivor video interviews have been conducted since 2012, but there is still work to do to amplify their voices to the world. Your dasvandh will help cover costs related to building this archive which are not limited to:

We have already conducted the video interviews with over 200 survivors. We have translated over 100 of the interviews, and have begun the process of editing the interviews. We have a proven track record of success with large, data-driven projects, such as our Crimes Against Humanity data visualization site, and have the experience and knowledge necessary to complete the Testimonies of Truth project as well.
