Disconnection of electricity in Shelter Home by PSPCL

Due to a severed power connection, Prabh Aasra Padiala has faced significant issues for a long time. On July 25, 2024, the Punjab State Power Corporation disconnected the electricity again, creating a major crisis for 450 helpless citizens with mental and physical illnesses. The extreme heat exacerbates the situation. The absence of electricity has triggered various challenges affecting our society’s residents:

1.Water Supply: Electricity scarcity severely disrupt our water supply, forcing us to rely on generators, incurring high diesel costs. This affects access to clean facilities and toilets.

2.Cooking Issues: Daily preparation of food for 600 people faces delays and complications without electricity. Chapati machines and boilers are non-functional, causing significant delays.

3.Commercial Washing Machines: Essential for residents, especially those with special needs, the lack of electricity hampers commercial washing machines. This affects hygiene standards and clean clothing availability.

4.Cold Environment (Cooler, Fans):The extreme heat leaves our inhabitants vulnerable, particularly without fans and coolers due to inconsistent power supply.

5.Health Machines Affected (Cardiac Monitors, Oxygen Concentrators, Syringe Pumps): Critical health equipment faces interruptions due to unreliable electricity, posing severe health risks to our residents.Immediate intervention is crucial to mitigate these challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of our community. We urgently seek assistance to address this critical issue and prevent further losses.

Games Activity (Netball, Futsal & Cricket):

On 8th May 2024, the State Selection Trials for Handball and Netball were organized by Special Olympic Bharat (SOB) at Prabh Aasra Unified Family, with players from all over Punjab participating.

The Netball trials followed on 8th May 2024, featuring players like Arbaaz, Amarjit Singh, Soni, and Kajal.Additionally, District trials for Futsal were held at Prabh Aasra, where Arbaaz, Nikki, Darshan Singh, and Ninder Singh competed, with Arbaaz and Nikki emerging as the selected players.

From June 9 to 15, 2024, Kamalpreet Singh, a 23-year-old inmate at Prabh Aasra, played for the Punjab Cricket Zone team in the 7th T20 Cricket Championship for the Deaf, held in Hyderabad and organized by the Punjab Deaf and Dumb Sports Association, Patiala. Kamalpreet's team won bronze, securing third place in the tournament.

Mental Health Awareness:

 May is recognized worldwide as Mental Health Awareness Month, and Prabh Aasra has been dedicated to improving mental health for the past 20 years.On May 28, 2024, Prabh Aasra hosted a Mental Health Awareness event featuring Special guest Gurpreet Guggi, who shared his insights to improving mental health.

The program, included presentations from students of various universities and colleges. Gurpreet Guggi participated in a Question &Answer  session with mental health experts Dr. Nitin Sethi (Psychiatrist) and S. Shamsher Singh (Founder of Prabh Aasra). Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, and participants from both the country and abroad joined via Google Meet.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including notable figures such as S. Karam Singh, Principal Sapinder Singh, Sh. Chand Ranan, S. Mohan Singh, and representatives from various farmers' organizations and social workers, all eager to engage in discussions on mental health awareness. The community was invited to join and benefit from this important initiative.

Path Sukhmani sahib:

On June 2, 2024, the Prabh Aasra Unified Family organized a Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji Path, along with a langar service and cold sweet water shabeel, dedicated to the martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev Ji. This event aimed to honor the sacrifice of Guru Sahib and to teach the values of humility, unity, and selfless service that he exemplified.

On July 11, 2024, Sri Guru Harkrishan College of Nursing Sohana visited Prabh Aasra Unified Family. They met with Maam Rajinder Kaur and appreciated the Prabh Aasra team for their dedicated work towards helping the helpless citizens of Prabh Aasra.

Cradle baby:

On June 6, 2024, Prabh Aasra Padiala received a newborn girl left with a bottle and pair of clothes in the cradle at 11:35 PM. The staff promptly took the baby for medical care and legal processing, led by Bhai Shamsher Singh. This incident highlights Prabh Aasra's unwavering commitment to safeguarding vulnerable lives and its crucial role as a sanctuary for those in need.

On June 20, 2024, as per protocol of adoption under CARA or SAA, Prabh Aasra officially handed over the newborn girl to Madam Yadwinder Kaur, the District Child Protection Officer of SAS Nagar, Mohali.

Homeopathic Camp :

On July 22, 2024, the Prabh Aasra Unified Family hosted a free homeopathic medical camp led by Dr. Manneet Kaur, a BHMS graduate and Homeopathic Medical Officer at Kurali's Government Homeopathy Dispensary. The camp provided thorough examinations and free medications to a strong turnout from the local community. This event underscored Prabh Aasra's commitment to accessible healthcare and its vital role in supporting community well-being.

Children home construction completed and  male children were shifted:

With the support of generous donors, Prabh Aasra completed a new building for male children and relocated them there on July 7, 2024. The event, attended by Bibi Surinder Kaur and S. Jasvir Singh Kadimajra, highlights Prabh Aasra's commitment to providing better living spaces and enhanced care for the children.      

Marriage of inhabitant in Prabh Aasra :

 The society organized the marriage of inmate Kamalpreet Kaur, who has been residing with her destitute mentally unstable mother at Prabh Aasra since 2023. After receiving treatment from a special doctor, she recovered quickly. On July 31, 2024, Prabh Aasra celebrated Kamalpreet’s joyful marriage at Gurudwara Jhanda Sahib in Padiala. The Anand Karaj ceremony was followed by festivities at Prabh Aasra, with heartfelt wishes from S. Shamsher Singh and Madam Rajinder Kaur. Esteemed guests, including S. Jasvir Singh Kadimajra, Sh. Chand Rana Ji, Principal Sapinder Singh Ji, and S. Balbir Singh Khalsa, contributed to the occasion's significance. This event underscores Prabh Aasra's commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive community for its residents.

New Isolation rooms :

As the number of contagious disease & hyper/ aggressive cases continues to rise, our society has constructed new isolation rooms for affected inhabitants.

To accommodate them for care & treatment we urgently need the following items.

Prabh Aasra Unified Family warmly welcomed 31 new members transferred from different government authorities like DSSO, DCPO, Police and other departments. Prabh Aasra’s commitment to providing compassionate support and maintaining the well-being of those in need, reflecting a deep dedication to their new residents' health and stability.
