Special Olympics Games 2024: A Celebration of Inclusion and Excellence
Prabh Aasra campus successfully hosted the Coach’s Clinic Camp for Special Olympics Bharat Punjab on September 28th and 29th, 2024. This impactful event warmly welcomed athletes and coaches from across the Punjab , providing them with specialized training in Athletics, Bocce, Powerlifting, Roller Skating, and Cycling. Coaches involved in the 25th Punjab State Special Olympics Games enhanced their skills and knowledge, preparing to offer well-rounded support for their athletes. The clinic marked a significant step toward fostering quality coaching and empowerment in sports, underscoring Prabh Aasra's commitment to inclusion and community support.
Achievers at Chandigarh Sports complex
On September 21, 2024, our young achievers Kamalpreet Singh, Harmapreet Singh, and Darshan represented Prabh Aasra with pride at the Sports Complex, Sector 7, Chandigarh. Kamal and Harman's outstanding teamwork earned them a gold medal in football, a testament to their dedication and skill. Though Harman and Darshan encountered challenges in their races and judo competition, their hard work and resilience shine through. The Prabh Aasra family celebrates each of them, knowing that every challenge builds strength for future triumphs. We stand united, eagerly anticipating many more victories ahead.
UDAAN event at Prabh Aasrsa by Rotary Club (Central) Ropar
On October 6, 2024, the Rotary Club Ropar Central organized the Athletic Meet UDAAN at Prabh Aasra, uniting the community in a celebration of sportsmanship, fitness, and unity. Featuring events like sprints, long jump, shot put, and javelin, UDAAN showcased athletes of all ages, inspiring a lasting passion for athletics and well-being. The meet emphasized mental resilience, teamwork, and community spirit, motivating everyone to embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle.
State Selection Trials of Netball and Handball for Special Olympics Bharat Punjab Held at Prabh Aasra
On October 27, 2024, Special Olympics Bharat Punjab organized State Selection Trials for netball and handball at Prabh Aasra Unified Family . Under the guidance of Special Olympics Bharat members, children from across Punjab came together to compete for sports in the upcoming National Championship. Their skill, determination, and passion for sports were on full display, making the trials a memorable event. Results from these trials will be announced after November 4, 2024.
Additionally, State Selection Trials for cricket and futsal are scheduled for November 17, 2024 in Amritsar, offering more young athletes the chance to shine on the national stage. These events mark a significant step in empowering young talent and reinforcing the values of teamwork and resilience within the community.
Felicitation Ceremony at Shri Bangarh Sahib
On August 11, 2028, at Shri Bangarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, a felicitation ceremony was held to honor adolescents who excelled in the Block Level Religious Exam. The event was graced by Ms. Rajinder Kaur from Prabh Aasra ,Kurali as a special guest, recognized for her outstanding contributions to social causes. Her dedication to community service added a profound touch to the ceremony, celebrating both academic and social excellence.
Homeopathic Medical Camps at Prabh Aasra
On August 12 and September 23, 2024, Prabh Aasra organized free homeopathic medical camps, led by Dr. Manneet Kaur, Homeopathic Medical Officer at Kurali. The camps provided essential healthcare services to both inmates and community members, with free consultations and medicines distributed, demonstrating Prabh Aasra’s commitment to accessible healthcare.
Celebration of Independence Day
On August 15, 2024, Shamsher Singh, President of Prabh Aasra, participated as a distinguished guest at the 78th Independence Day celebrations, alongside prominent government officials, including Gurmander Singh (PCS) and Ramandeep Kaur (Tehsildar). The Nagar Council Kurali organized the event, which featured cultural performances by school students, adding a vibrant atmosphere to the celebration.
Power Disconnection Incident: PSPCL SDO Removes Electricity Meter
On August 19, 2024, Prabh Aasra experienced an unexpected power disconnection by PSPCL at approximately 12 PM. The sudden removal of the electricity meter by the Sub Divisional Officer without prior notice disrupted daily operations, causing significant challenges for the 450 residents, many of whom suffer from physical and mental health issues. Urgent actions were taken to resolve the crisis. 
Peaceful Protest for Free Electricity for Shelter Home Residents
A meeting held at Prabh Aasra on September 3, 2024, addressed the pressing issue of providing free or reduced-cost electricity for the 450 residents. If the demands were not met, a peaceful protest was planned. The meeting included Sangat Welfare and Nishkam Seva Foundation members, who were advocating for better conditions at the shelter.
Electricity Restored at Prabh Aasra: Shamsher Singh Ji Thanks Supporters and Punjab Government
On August 2, 2024, the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd restored the electricity connection for Prabh Aasra Padiala and the PA Jhanjeri branch. Shamsher Singh Ji expressed gratitude to the farmers, social, and political organizations, as well as the Punjab Government, who supported the Prabh Aasra community during challenging times.
Visits and Engagements
Punjab International Public School: Students visited Prabh Aasra to gain insight into social responsibility and community service, inspiring them to engage in future social initiatives. 
International Visitors: A group of international visitors toured Prabh Aasra, fostering cultural exchange and appreciation for humanitarian efforts.
Malkeet Rauni's Visit: Punjabi actor Malkeet Rauni visited for the video shoot of the Punjabi song "MATLAB." His positive interaction with residents and staff uplifted the spirits of all involved.
New Admissions
Prabh Aasra warmly welcomed 15 new members, referred by various government departments, including the DSSO, DCPO, and police. The Unified Family continues to offer compassionate care to all new residents, ensuring their health, stability, and well-being.
Rescue of One-and-a-Half-Year-Old Child
"On the evening of September 28, 2024, Prabh Aasra responded to a report of a one-and-a-half-year-old child found crying alone on the pavement. The child was immediately comforted and taken to Civil Hospital, SAS Nagar, for a medical checkup. Reports were submitted to the Child Welfare Committee regarding appropriate care, reaffirming Prabh Aasra’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals."
DENTAL AND HEALTH HYGIENE CAMP
On October 12, 2024, Prabh Aasra organized a dental and health hygiene camp led by Dr. Shweta Sapra, a seasoned dentist with 20 years of experience, including tenures at Escorts Fortis Hospital in Delhi and Indo Gulf Hospital in Noida. During the camp, inhabitants received comprehensive dental check-ups, hygiene education, and personalized care, promoting awareness of oral health and hygiene practices. This initiative aimed to enhance the well-being of the community and ensure access to essential health services.
Prabh Aasra Founders Honored with 'Prominent Punjabi' Award
On October 25, 2024, NEWS18 celebrated the 'Prominent Punjabi' Awards at J.W. Marriott, Chandigarh, honoring Bhai Shamsher Singh and Bibi Rajinder Kaur, founders of Prabh Aasra, for their exceptional contributions to social work over the past two decades. The awards were Distributed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, with notable personalities like Sukhwinder Singh singer in attendance. Prabh Aasra has made a significant impact, providing care and rehabilitation to over 2,170 individuals and successfully reuniting 1,406 with their families through the “Mission Milaap” initiative, showcasing its unwavering commitment to community upliftment.
Eco-Friendly Diwali Celebration at Prabh Aasra: A Festive Blend of Joy, Inclusivity, and Sustainability
On October 31, 2024, Prabh Aasra celebrated Eco-Friendly Diwali, gathering inhabitants, volunteers, and staff for a meaningful and joyful event. The celebration featured vibrant decorations with clay diyas, organic-colored rangoli, and a collective eco-friendly pledge. Festivities included a variety of engaging activities like wheelchair races, one leg races, puzzle-solving, dance performances, and musical chairs, fostering unity, fun, and inclusivity. A diya-painting activity added a personal touch as each decorated diya brightened the space with a warm glow. The day concluded with traditional sweets, snacks and community meals, symbolizing shared values and responsible celebration. This Diwali celebration brought happiness and reinforced environmental consciousness, making it memorable for all involved.
New Female and Isolation Wards
Due to the increasing number of female inhabitants, Prabh Aasra has constructed a new hall and dedicated rooms to ensure their comfort and support speedy recovery. Some patients require special accommodations due to hyperactivity and isolated diseases, necessitating separate rooms to ensure their well-being and that of others. The halls and rooms are now ready for the shift, but essential supplies are still needed to facilitate the transition smoothly.
Requirement for Sky Lift
As part of the ongoing expansion and maintenance of its facilities, Prabh Aasra recognizes the need for efficient and safe methods to conduct outdoor work, including window and glass repairs, plastering, painting, and other repairs at heights. To facilitate these tasks and reduce reliance on external contractors, the NGO requires its own Sky Lift machine.
The Sky Lift will be essential for performing a variety of outdoor maintenance activities at significant heights, ensuring timely and cost-effective upkeep of the building. Having this equipment in-house will also enhance the safety and efficiency of workers, as the lift will provide stable access to elevated areas, reducing risks associated with traditional ladders or scaffolding.
Awareness :
On September 10, 2024, nursing students from Sri Sukhmani Institute of Nursing, and on September 13, 2024, from Rayat Bahra University visited Prabh Aasra Unified Family. They had the privilege of engaging with Madam Rajinder Kaur and S. Shamsher Singh Ji, who shared valuable insights on recognizing signs of mental illness, preventive measures, and the importance of ethics, moral values, and personality development in caregiving. The students expressed deep appreciation for Prabh Aasra’s unwavering commitment to helping vulnerable individuals, leaving with a renewed sense of purpose, inspiration, and a profound understanding of compassionate, ethical care.
